Happy Friday! Anyone have any fun weekend plans coming up? Mine will be pretty low-key, but that's my kind of weekend!

I wanted today's post to mainly be about blogging and my thoughts on why I think it's okay to write about whatever you want to on your blog.

Ashley in August has been live for exactly 3 weeks now! You guys that have stopped by and read my posts so far (thanks!!) may have noticed (as if its not obvious), there is no niche to be found on my site.

Before I officially started my blog, I read up on helpful tips and advice (mainly from other bloggers). A recurring theme that I came across was to "make sure you know what you want the focus of your blog to be" and "make sure you know your niche because that is the only way that you could attract and keep readers interested"... Well, that was on my mind for a while and I thought about it quite frequently. I knew I liked fashion and beauty, but I don't love talking about it all the time. I do love traveling and photography but I also knew that I didn't want that to be the complete focus of my blog. I will admit, before starting out, I personally felt like I had to commit to one topic but I really, really didn't want to.

In the past, I had created a blog that was all about baseball and my favorite team, the New York Mets.  Don't get me wrong, I love baseball and the Mets and had enough knowledge of both to sustain a blog, but wasn't compelled or motivated to write about either 24/7 and because of the blog name and solidified niche it already had, I just simply couldn't write about anything else on it! Because of that, the blog ceased after only a few months.

This time around, when thinking of starting up a blog again, I 100% knew I shouldn't limit myself just to fall into a particular category of being a "fashion blogger", "travel blogger" or "photography blogger" etc., not that there's anything wrong with that. I knew I wanted to create a more personal blog and talk about a range of topics. However, my main worry was having a blog that seemed all over the place. I decided to streamline and compile my top five topics that I do like talking about the most: lifestyle, fashion, beauty, photography, & travel. I figured that this could be a starting point where I could branch out to other closely related topics if I wanted to.

I'm pretty new to the blogging block, so I don't have a lot of advice to give when it comes to blogging at this moment, being that I'm still searching for advice myself! But what I can say, to anyone out there that thinks they need to have one objective and focus for their blog or to start one, don't think that because then you're only limiting yourself and your creativity! Just because you're not putting out one style of content all the time doesn't mean you won't hold interest. I'd like to think that people want to see versatility and someone who just doesn't talk about one thing. Again, there's nothing at all wrong with that! To make a long story short, let your blog be whatever it is you want it to be and work hard at it. People will keep coming back for that reason.

Let me know your thoughts! Have a great weekend!!
